Our Approach to Counseling

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping you live a meaningful life, even in the presence of difficult emotions or thoughts. Unlike some therapies that try to fix or suppress negative feelings, ACT teaches you psychological flexibility.

We work together to identify your core values—the things that matter most to you—and take committed action toward them. Whether you are navigating the grief of infertility or the challenges of recovery, ACT helps you unhook"from unhelpful thought patterns so you can move forward with resilience.

What is the Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method is one of the most research-backed forms of couples counseling available today. Developed from over 40 years of research with thousands of couples, it provides a structured approach to relationship health.

As a counselor trained in Gottman Level 1 clinical tools, I help couples identify the specific behaviors that erode connection (often called the "Four Horsemen") and replace them with antidotes that build trust, intimacy, and effective communication. It is practical, skill-building work designed to strengthen the foundation of your relationship.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples?

Absolutely. My practice is proudly LGBTQIA+ affirming. I have experience supporting clients through the unique nuances of queer family building (including reciprocal IVF and known donors) as well as the intersection of identity and recovery. You are welcome here exactly as you are.

4

Do you see individuals or only couples?

I see both! I work with individuals navigating personal challenges like addiction recovery, infertility grief, and life transitions. I also work with couples facing relationship breakdown, communication issues, or the shared stress of family building.

5

I am not currently in crisis, but life is taking a toll. Is counseling right for me in this season?

Yes, definitely. In fact, counseling is often most effective when you have the space to do the work before a crisis hits.

You do not need to wait until you are at a breaking point to benefit from support. Life has a way of accumulating pressure—whether it is relationship tension, professional burnout, or simply the weight of daily responsibilities. If you are noticing that your patience is shorter, your healthy coping mechanisms are slipping, or you are feeling disconnected from the things that usually bring you joy, that is a signal to pay attention.

Counseling provides a proactive safeguard. It allows us to identify stressors early, strengthen your resilience, and protect your relationships so that you aren't just managing the stress, but preventing it from escalating.

6

Do I need to be sober to start counseling?

I work with individuals at various stages of change regarding substance use and recovery. During our initial consultation, we will assess your current needs. If you require medical detox or a higher level of care (such as intensive outpatient), I will happily provide referrals to trusted partners.

For those in early or long-term recovery, or those exploring a sober curious life, my practice offers a values-based framework to rebuild identity and trust.

Logistics, Insurance and Fees

Do you take insurance?

ECA Recovery + Wellness operates as a private-pay practice. This allows us to determine your treatment plan based on your needs rather than insurance company limitations.

However, if you have Out-of-Network (OON) benefits, I can provide you with a superbill (a specialized receipt for services) at the end of each month for services rendered. You may be able to submit this to your insurance provider for potential partial reimbursement. Please check with your provider directly to understand your OON mental health benefits.

2

How does the free consultation work?

I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation for all new inquiries. This is a no-pressure opportunity for us to connect. We will briefly discuss what you are looking for, assess if my clinical expertise is the right fit for your needs, and answer any logistical questions you have before scheduling a full session.
